Stranmillis Tradition
In true stran style - one of the girls in my class got engaged at the weekend. Its stran tradition that you get engaged in 3rd year, in my freshers week our lecturer told us to have fun and make the most of life because by the time we hit third year most of our class will be sitting in RE sparkling their left hands at him. So this is the start of it all. I just hope that the other part of stran legend doesnt turn out to be true (where if you arent engaged by the time you graduate thats you left on the shelf)
I havent really been up to much in the last week - in sign managed to get stephen picked on again - totally accidentally. Although we learnt how to say funny and joking as well as devil fault and trouble. most of which stephen uses when he signs to me. Managed also to find out that cornflakes isnt what i thought it was - so glad!!!!!
Stran not much has been happening - work load and attitudes of people have definatley changed. Its more of a competition now to make an impression on the lecturers - you can tell everyone is aiming for a 2:1 or a 1st. Also reflected in the amount of work you see people doing who are generally laid back and the general unavailability of important library books - so you can never photocopy them when you want them- and the amount of printer credits and photocopier cards that 3rd year are going through.
We have to do a project on one of 3 options, I chose to do it on an element of worship/pratice in 2 or more christian traditions - so the title ive come up with is A study of the place of children in the Methodist, Baptist and Roman Catholic Traditions. I'm going to look at entry into the church (baptism, dedication) children and the sacraments (1st confession/1st communion/confirmation/communion) and childrens place in the life and worship of the church (child friendliness, general attitudes to children, how/where a child learns about their faith, chn and spiritual gifts, chn and worship)
Really looking forward to getting stuck into it. It should be good because its something i'm interested in and the questionnaires and other opinions will probably help me improve what we do in knock. Its a lot of work though, just compiling everything, (i want to do it like a scrapbook) theres alot to photocopy and stick ontop of the questionnaires and interviews and academic theological arguments supporting the churches positions. But i think i'll love it!
