Today i was studying for my RE exam on tuesday. Its on the reformation so i have decided im going to answer questions on the catholic reformation, the anabaptists and martin luther. THe luther question is on his doctrine of justification and how it is linked to his biography because he suffered from bouts of depression and angst and a deep fear of not knowing where he stood with GOd; so some critics say that his doctrine of justification is really only to make himself feel better, like a big spiritual comfort blanket. Anyway was reading about how we are cloaked in Christ's righteousness so that when God looks at us he doesnt see our sin but Christs righteous cloaked over us and i thought about polar bears.

Nicky adopted a polar bear at christmas time. It lives in the polar bear captial of the world - churchill. The bear she adopted is an orphan bear and the project she is sponsoring is the matching of polar bears to surrogate parents.

When a baby bear gets lost and separated from its mummy (or she doesnt want it) they go out and rescue the cub. Then they get a bear that already has another cub of its own and they rub the foundling cubs face and hands and feet with vics vaporub and then they rub it on the natural cub and the mummy bear too. Then the mummy bear wakes up and smells its cub and the other cub and because they smell the same, she thinks they are both hers and adopts the lost cub.

Somehow this reminds me of justification. Im covered in christs righteousness, the polar bear is covered in vics vaporub.

Love the comparison. I have a feeling seeing something on tv with other animals doing similar things. Maybe sheep? Not sure!
